Wind is throwing raindrops against the window. Waves are breaking and water is splashing onto the already wet and sandy beach. The clock strikes 12:51. The bell rings. Once. Silence. All I hear is some birds and a helicopter high up in the sky. The people around me are standing next to each other without saying a word. They are all looking down, some with their hands folded. Aotearoa Square is a place to celebrate, it is one of the main places in Auckland where people gather so often. Today they gather to mourn. More than 150 people lost their lives exactly a week ago in Christchurch. A devastating earthquake hit the largest city of the South Island with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale. Es ist 12:51. Die Glocke laeutet. Ein einziges Mal. Ruhe. Alles was ich hoeren kann sind Voegel und einen Hubschrauber hoch am Himmel. Die Menschen um mich herum sagen kein Wort. Sie schauen auf den Boden, einige haben ihre Haende gefalten. Auf dem Aotea Platz wird oft gefeiert, es ist einer der Plaetze, an dem sich die Menschen von Auckland oft versammeln. Heute treffen sie sich um zu trauern. Mehr als 150 Menschen haben genau vor einer Woche ihr Leben in Christchurch verloren.
