Hi, I am Peter and you are just about to enter my world. I am a young professional who was born in Poland, brought up in Germany and spent a couple of years in the southern hemisphere. At the moment I am in New Zealand.
After finishing my Bachelor of Arts in Media and Cultural Science at Duesseldorf University, I started to study Journalism at Hamburg University and University of Technology Sydney, where I graduated in September 2010. You can find out more about the professional Peter here.
This blog started as experiment to keep family and friends at home up to date when I started my studies at University of Technology, Sydney. In the meantime many things have changed: Not only did the URL for the blog change from downPETERunder to PeterJagla and finally PeterJaglaBlog, my focus in life changed, too. Home is not really Germany anymore and due to my experiences, travels and studies in foreign countries I made many friends far away from what I once called home. It is up to me to keep in touch with my friends all over the world as well as those back in Germany and this blog is my way to do it.
PeterJaglaBlog is bilingual because it is so hard to stay in touch with so many lovely people. Be it fellow students, work mates or just friends I made while traveling. Be it my family or friends in Germany: To keep in touch with all my friends on a very personal basis is simply impossible. Therefor this blog became bilingual after I left Australia. It is the best excuse for me not to call my closest friends every week and not to send a txt out to mum every day.
One day in 2009 changed my life: It was a cold winter’s day and I picked up my mail in my flat in Hamburg. One large postcard (clearly advertising by a large American bank and one of the largest in the world) got all my attention. It had this optimistic sentence written on it in bold pinkish letters: “2009 wird mein Jahr!” (“2009 is going to be my year!”) Soon this slogan became my slogan for 2009 and I started to change my life completely and made my arrangements to leave Germany and finish my studies in Australia as well as to explore the southern hemisphere. From this day on I decided to have a slogan for every new year. Find out more about my slogan for 2010 here and the one for 2011 by clicking here.
